How we can match a donor to you

I believe in matching each patient to an egg donor who will reflect her individual looks and requirements. It is important for the future physical and social well-being of your child and yourself that your egg donor is a good physical match. If the egg donor-recipient matching procedure has been carried out with skill and care, your child will resemble you and/or your family very closely. This means that you will not be forced to tell your child about the circumstances of his or her conception because of having a different appearance, but will instead have the option of telling or not telling.

How the matching process works

All the egg donors in our AVA-Peter Donor Bank have been comprehensively tested for medical and psychological suitability during our recruitment and screening procedure. Whichever one we recommend, you may be completely confident that she meets all of these strict requirements.

Egg donation is naturally a highly personal matter, and many of my patients prefer to choose their egg donor themselves using my advice or absolutely independently. But there is a large group of patients who prefer to distance themselves from the process of donor choosing and ask us to match a donor for them.  Most of my patients wish to find a donor whose appearance is as similar as possible to their own. Personality traits, education, interests and blood group are often considerations as well. As your personal consultant, I always try to discover which characteristics are most important to you.

For our Matched Donor Programme we will use AVA-Peter’s Egg Donor Bank, which contains detailed optical, medical, social and psychological information about our egg donors, available only to the clinic. During the matching process we will use all this available information and our personal impression about each egg donor whom we have an opportunity to meet in person during our daily work: interviews, consultations, medical tests. To the future recipient these egg donors, who have agreed to disclose only a limited amount of information:  age, blood group, colours, height and weight, family situation, children, education, occupation, interests, character traits.

After receiving your photographs we carefully check our donor bank for the person who can offer you the closest match. During the matching process, we look for similarities in appearance (eye, hair and skin colour, race, height and build), and do our best to find you the most attractive donor who fits your requirements and has similar looks. The majority of our donors are of Western European appearance, with blonde/brown hair and blue/green/grey eyes. This makes it possible to always match you with a donor who is brunette or blonde, and who has the same eye colour as yourself.  We can also match you and your donor for blood group and Rhesus factor. We know that your donor’s intellectual capacity is often also an important consideration, so we record her educational level and her current occupation and interests.

If you are not entirely confident, you simply ask us to make another match or try to choose your egg donor yourself.

We do understand the extremely sensitive nature of the decision to choose a particular egg donor, and will only proceed when you are happy with your choice.

It is important for the future physical and social well-being of your child and yourself that your egg donor is a good match, in terms of physical, medical and social aspects. If the egg donor-recipient matching procedure has been carried out with skill and care, your child will resemble you and/or your family very closely. This means that you will not be forced to tell your child about the circumstances of his or her conception because of having a different appearance, but will instead have the option of telling or not telling.
